Develop, Create, Engage
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Riverwalk School, a vibrant special school in Bury St Edmunds.
At Riverwalk, we place our pupils at the heart of everything we do, recognising and celebrating each individual’s strengths, interests, and achievements.
Our school provides high-quality education and care for children and young people aged 4–19 with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). We are committed to creating an environment where every learner feels safe, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Working closely with families, carers, and a range of professionals, our dedicated staff team ensures that every pupil’s learning journey is meaningful, personalised, and fulfilling. Through a rich and engaging curriculum, we encourage communication, independence, confidence, and a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom. Riverwalk is a community built on kindness, respect, and aspiration.
I invite you to explore our website to learn more about our school, and I warmly welcome you to visit us to experience our caring and inspiring environment firsthand.
Kind Regards,
Lukasz Rumanowski
Academy Head

A walk in the park for Sharks Sharks went to Nowton Park, demonstrating excellent listening skills and safe walking behaviour throughout the journey. Upon arrival, they visited the café, where they displayed positive social skills by waiting patiently, using polite manners, and speaking kindly to one another. Each child enjoyed choosing an item to purchase before sitting together to eat and chat appropriately Afterwards, the children played with bats and balls, taking turns, sharing equipment, and encouraging one another during their games. Once everyone had finished playing, the group walked back to class, continuing to demonstrate positive behaviour, good listening skills, and respectful social interactions throughout the return journey

Greenfingers (Bury in Bloom) Judging Day We were delighted to welcome the Judges Mags and Jasmine today to see our beautiful garden. Bradley, Julie and Charlie from Bury Town Council came along to support the school. The judges took time to see our garden and meet some of our students who had dressed in yellow and had Winnie the Pooh toys to support the theme of the competition which is 100 years of Winnie the Pooh. We are extremely grateful to Bradley, Julie and Charlie for all the support, ideas and enthusiasm they bring to Gardening Club each week. Students have been working hard, planting seeds for the sunflowers, tending the hanging baskets and growing tomatoes, spring onions, green beans and rhubarb. Classes are making rhubarb crumble during the last week of term and Bradley Julie and Charlie are joining us to enjoy the results

What a fantastic day celebrating the Consortium Trust's 10th Anniversary at Thorington Theatre! We were so proud of our amazing students, who gave a brilliant performance and represented Riverwalk School with enthusiasm and confidence. Congratulations to Helena for winning the KS4 writing competition and reading her story to the audience, and to Kacper for winning the KS3 category. A special mention also goes to Edward, who shared his experiences of 14 years at Riverwalk during the welcome. Well done to everyone involved - a wonderful day and a great celebration!

It's important to help children stay safe and comfortable in the heat. Simple steps such as encouraging regular drinks, wearing lightweight clothing, applying sunscreen, and seeking shade can make a big difference. Take a look at this helpful article for practical advice on supporting children during hot weather:
Important Sports Day Update Due to the forecast heatwave this week, we have made the decision to postpone our Sports Day events to ensure all of our pupils can participate safely and comfortably. The good news is that Sports Day is still going aheadjust a little later! New dates will be shared soon, and we look forward to celebrating these fun, inclusive events with everyone. Thank you for your understanding and support.

World Cup Football Breakfast Club Everyone enjoyed celebrating England's 4-2 win The students enjoyed making different choices and joining their friends for breakfast. The most popular were sausages, eggs and pancakes with syrup Our wonderful Kate also continued the fun with lunch time celebrations!

Hot Weather Reminder With hot weather forecast, please ensure students wear appropriate clothing, arrive with sunscreen already applied, and bring a water bottle. Please also pack spare sun cream in bags and return any consent forms if staff may need to assist with application. We'll be doing our bit to keep all students safe, comfortable, and happy during the warmer weather.

Doorstep Theatre Festival We would like to say a big thank you to Theatre Royal for arranging the Doorstep Theatre Festival. Students have been having a great time watching Corali perform Seaside Snapshot. This was a fully interactive sensory performance in which the students were encouraged to join in as much as they wanted. Some of our students were interviewed and loved having the clapperboard. You will see from the pictures attached how much everyone enjoyed themselves.
