Riverwalk School

Monday morning rickshaws

Monday morning Rickshaw rides have been a much-enjoyed routine at Riverwalk for over three years now. With the wind flowing through their hair, it gives pupils a feeling of movement they rarely experience. For some pupils this is calming, others energising. They can practise their turn-taking skills and show anticipation when they see the Rickshaw. Some of our pupils may never learn to ride a bike, so this experience is unique.

We are very privileged that the lovely volunteers provide this service for free. We asked co-founder, Sam Reid to tell you a little more about Bury St Edmunds Rickshaw.

BSE Rickshaw started in 2018 with one rickshaw and a small team of volunteers. After approaching many care homes and schools we established that our joy rides where bringing ’more smiles per mile’ and with local company’s financial support along with the town council we grew to have a wheelchair rickshaw which converted into a cargo bike.

We are proud to have over 50 volunteers who have been trained & DBS checked to provide rides 6 days a week in our town. As well as the wheelchair rickshaw, we have another 4 rickshaws (including a cargo bike), the annual running cost for which is nearly £10,000 so we rely heavily on donations from individuals and organisations and sponsorship to keep our wheels moving.

We always need new sponsors who can have their logo visible on a chosen rickshaw and benefit from all sorts of other bespoke publicity opportunities. While we probably can't promise exposure quite like last year, with our appearance on The One Show and The Queen's Award, we continue to maintain a very high profile in the media, the town and surrounding area. We recently picked up yet another accolade, this time The Green Award in Radio Suffolk's Make a Difference Campaign.

Our sponsorship fees are £1000 for 12 Months and £600 for 6 Months. We are always looking for creative ways to work in partnership with our sponsors so if you are interested in being part of our story, please contact us for a chat on 07850452697.

If you would like to make an individual donation, however small, please use the link on our website below https://www.bserickshaw.org.uk/
